La Grande Boucherie: Reviews & Ratings

La Grande Boucherie took me to another world. This was the perfect place for dinner this holiday season. The place was beautifully decorated for the holidays. When you walk in, they offer coat check and the hostess will guide you directly to your table. There's a main level and a second floor. The main level was already so full on a Tuesday night! On the second level there was a private dining room and a large space for larger groups. I immediately started thinking about how I wanted to bring my coworkers here for a dinner in the future! When you get seated, there's complementary bread and butter. We looked over the menu and then asked the waitress for recommendation. Diana was so knowledgeable about the menu and made ordering easy. For starters we ordered the escargots and wagyu garpaccio. Both starters were excellent and flavorful! The wagyu came out on this lovely pink salt tray. I'm still thinking about that crunchy bite of the bread followed by the ever so smooth Wagyu. Also is it even dinner if you order any drinks?? My friend got an espresso martini and I got the La Vie En Rose martini. Both drinks were made to perfection. I didn't even taste the alcohol! The expresso martini was so smooth that I had to order my own espresso martini! Whoever that bartender was... great job! For the main entrees, I ordered the Maple Leaf Duck Duo after it caught my attention on Yelp and my friend for the Steak with Frites. To start, the steak was cooked perfectly. Medium meant medium at this restaurant! It wasn't overcooked or undercooked. It was what we asked for. When I took a bite of the steak, it was tender and not tough. There was the right amount of seasoning on the steak. The duck was another dish that was a must try! The crispy skin followed by the succulent duck just exploded in my mouth. It paired wonderfully with the lentils and kohlrabi puree! To end the night, we each ordered dessert. I got the creme brûlée after looking at the previous yelp reviews and also the cheesecake. The crème brûlée was evenly torched. It was so smooth and delightful. I could eat this everyday if you allowed me to! The cheesecake was soft and light. My friend compared it to a cheesecake she ate from another country! Overall, I highly recommend La Grande Boucherie for any special events or for company outings!

WOW! That's all I can say about my amazing dining experience at La Grande Boucherie! A 5-star experience from the stunning space, impeccable service, and amazing food. My friend and I had 6pm reservations on a Wednesday evening. For a weekday the restaurant was still lively and buzzing so I recommend a reservation. I arrived a few moments before my reservation we were greeted by a friendly face, able to check our coats with the hostess and immediately seated. Talk about an absolute stunning restaurant. It gives that upscale steakhouse vibe with dim moody lighting, statement light fixtures, vintage french posters, crown molding, high ceilings, and a stunning bar accompanied by a piano right in the middle of the restaurant. The restaurant is two floors the second floor you are able to peer down over the balcony to look at the first floor for more breathtaking views. They have it decorated for Christmas which gave it a festive yet classic touch. This ambiance is perfect for a romantic dinner/date night or a place to impress for a business meeting. While I was swept away by the scenery the service truly swept me off my feet. Our server, Arturo was AMAZING. He was attentive, personable and so knowledgeable of the menu. We also were greeted by the chef who made personal stops at each table to check in. The chef gave us some suggestions based on his favorites which was appreciated. My friend and I felt like we met a celebrity because, when was the last time you shook the hand of the lead chef and an upscale restaurant? Lol. Our entire stay at La Grande Boucherie we were made to feel comfortable and like family from each staff member we encountered, I'm sure you'll feel the same! Yum yum yum! The food got better bite after bite! For starters we had the complimentary bread which paired with butter and salt. We also ordered: Escargot: Served pipping in a shallot, lemon, parsley sauce. Caesar salad: nice crisp greens with a light caesar almost like vinaigrette? Both tasty and got us soooo ready For our main course or "Plats Principaux". There are SO many main course options, all classic french dishes, it's hard to choose just one! Per recommendation of the chef we tried Pappardelle Bolognese: hand made noodles made fresh in house topped with a rich sauce, and meat combo of beef veal and pork ragu, which was so extremely tasty, the pasta was cooked dente, with good texture and the richness of the sauce has me literally scraping my plate with bread to get every drop. Maple Leaf Duck Duo: Very tender duck, Kohlrabi purée with brussel sprouts and lentils. The duck was juicy and literally fell off the bone and was the star of the dish! Throughout our meal we had a few cocktails, all eloquently made, bold in flavor profile, and unique one did not taste like another. La Vie En Rose: Very similar to a cosmo, loved the notes of lychee and cranberry! French Martini: Smooth and tasty with pineapple and raspberry Heure Magique: Stunning drink served with a flower I loved the taste of the yellow chartreuse and lime, Green Flags: Sweet with the kiwi yet refreshing due to the basil almost like a mojito! Very elevated and expansive cocktail menu, would certainly come here for the drinks alone! We finished our time here with dessert, because a little something sweet after an amazing meal is so necessary! As if we couldn't be wowed more, the dessert was DELICIOUS. Cheesecake with raspberry sauce was great, perfectly made creamy/buttery cheesecake topped with a sweet yet tart raspberry sauce (they offer various sauce options but I highly recommend the raspberry). Comme Un Paris-Brest which was a very rich pastry, with bananas, topped with a banana sauce, and a peanut cream sooo yummy and good sweet and salty blend that had my palate dancing! I wish I had ordered one to go lol one wasn't enough. Overall La Grande Boucherie was a 5 star experience, leaving us not only satisfied but wowed. I cannot WAIT to get back here. Go, and thank me later!

La Grand Boucherie is a french steakhouse on the corner of Dearborn and Hubbard. Parking is tough as all other locations in the area, I would avoid street parking. if you're driving I would suggest spot hero. Walking in, I was surprised how loud it was inside. We had a Thursday evening reservation on a 10 degree cold Chicago evening. I expected it to be half empty and dead. Nope, I walked in and the place was loud and bustling. The bar in the center was packed with people. The whole restaurant was lit up with decorative lights for the holidays and a Christmas tree that screams come take a picture here. We were seated at tiny two person table by the window. I would say the table size was smaller than I expected but it seemed to just barely fit all our food. I did not like the tables are very close to each other, another couple was not 3 feet away from us and I could hear their conversation but I can appreciate a restaurant trying to maximize dining space. Our waiter Andres was attentive and explained the menu which is quite robust. He elegantly pronounced all the french words which i butchered when placing mu order. There are appetizers, a cold seafood bar (Oysters, Lobster Caviar), main dishes and a separate steak menu. For drinks we had the Old Fashioned, La Vie En Rose. Both were excellent, the Old Fashioned was traditional. The La Vie En Rose was slightly fruity and sparkling, very refreshing. They also have drinks with absinthe which i would absolutely recommend, I tried the Boucherie Sezerac which is bourbon with a slight twist. I would come back here for the drinks they are all ni ely crafted. For appetizers we got the escargot which was delicious (I suggest dipping some bread into the flavorful oily bitter) and lobster bisque which had a unique nutty like flavor but still very enjoyable. I noticed a lot of people ordering the french onion soup and they seemed to enjoy it. Andres said it was one of their popular dishes so if you like french onion i would try it for sure. For mains we each got a steak. I got the Au Poivre which is a filet mignon wich is peppercorn crusted for a nice spicy finish. My girlfriend got the Chicago style ribeye. Both steaks were perfectly cooked to our preferred temperature and delicious. For sides we got fries (nicely seasoned), mushrooms which were generously seasoned with lots of garlic and a gouda mac and cheese which was so goodaaah!!! Overall the food is great and i would recommend coming here for a family dinner or a nice bar night out to mingle at a a bar. With a robust menu there are many things to try and keep coming back. Drinks, especially the absinthe cocktails were excellent snd leave me wanting to try more.

Absolutely loved our experience here! If I'm being honest, I haven't been feeling the holiday spirit AT ALL this year, but getting to visit La Grande Boucherie tonight seriously set the vibe. The restaurant is not only beautiful on the outside, but it's tastefully decorated for the holidays with soft Christmas music playing, and also has the most gorgeous interior inside. I did some research prior and learned that the bar and some of the decor is actually imported from France! Apparently there's stained glass art that survived the war somewhere in here! We sat on the second floor, and there was always something interesting to look at any way you turned your head whether it was the wall+ceiling trims/stained glass/etc. Further research told me that this restaurant is THE if not one of, the largest restaurants in Chicago (10,000sq ft is actually insane). Our server, Manuel was pure excellence throughout the entire night. He was so professional yet enthusiastic, and still had a smile on his face to the very end despite the whole section getting filled with other patrons to attend to soon after we arrived! I would definitely request him again if we were to come back. The busser was also great, refilling water promptly, packing up food, removing plates, bringing more bread and butter, etc. Now onto the food: French onion soup- one of my favorites to order anywhere. I've tried to make it before and it was definitely a labor of love, so kudos to whoever is in charge of caramelizing onions here because I know it's a whole event. The soup was perfectly seasoned (not too salty like some others I've had) and literally overflowing with onions/soft bread, and cheese to the brim! Lobster Bisque- Not your average lobster bisque! I'm not a huge lobster person (this was my husband's pick), but it was definitely more than just a creamy soup with lobster chunks. I loved the delicate crescent shaped puff pastry on top, I've never seen that before! Prime Skirt Steak w/ chimichurri- "Boucherie" translates to butcher shop, so I obviously came here with the intention of trying some steak. We recently went to a very well known and highly talked about steak house recently and were SO disappointed, so I wanted to give restaurant steak one more go. If you know skirt steak, you know it can be a tougher cut of meat and the way it's prepared needs to be on point. My first bite of this steak blew my mind. You got the bit of chew that you'll always get with leaner cuts of meat, but it was crazy tender+juicy and cooked to a perfect medium rare as requested. You almost don't need the chimichurri because of how much flavor it has, but the sauce was the icing on the cake. Bouf bourguinon- I love a good beef stew (I'm not great at cooking it, but I love eating it). Flavors were well balanced and the beef was fall apart tender. A really pretty dish to look at too! Smoked Gouda Mac & Cheese- I told myself I was going to stop ordering Mac & Cheese at fancier restaurants, but how could I not? Gouda is an underrated cheese, and should 100% be used more for Mac's. I appreciated that this was cheesy enough to be super tasty, but not overly rich/drowned in butter. Basque Cheesecake- Super light and airy! Not overly sweet, and had more of a soufflé texture rather than your typical "block of cream cheese with graham crackers on the bottom" cheesecake. Boucherie crème brûlée- black sesame crème brûlée?! I had to have this. I had an amazing simple Chinese sesame seed dessert recently and am just a fan of sesame flavor in general, so this was a no brainer. I will say, the initial appearance of this dessert is going to be something you don't often see. It's basically a black crème brûlée, but it's unlike any I've ever had before. The caramelized sesame seeds and custard together just MAKE SENSE. I can't even describe the flavor, but I'll come back just for this someday. Thank you for having us!!! (The tomahawk+bone marrow offering sounds amazing. I'll be keeping that in the back of my mind for another visit.) Commuting pro tip: This restaurant is located right in the very busy part of Hubbard street. Parking is slim to none during busy hours but there's a hotel/public parking garage or plan to park a bit further to avoid the headache!

Rating: 7.5/10 Amazing service and drinks! Food: We enjoyed the wagyu carpaccio appetizer which came on a salt block. However, the steak tartare was slightly discolored and wasn't our favorite. We also tried the duck and sea bass entrees--both were cooked perfectly.

I think I died and went to Paris. 1900's Paris! I absolutely loved it! From the moment you walk through the doors of "La Grande Boucherie, you have the feeling of entering a classic la Belle Epoque Brasserie. Perhaps the doors are a portal that transports the guests back in time. From the beautifully designed mosaic floor, to the massive racetrack bar with a vaulted ceiling, to the stained glass windows, to wall decor, to the life size stained glass mural of a Paris restaurant scene worthy to be displayed at a museum; the building itself is worth a visit. The main floor offers a lively scene (not overly noisy) with plenty of tables surrounding the long oval bar standing proudly in the center, as if reminding the patronns they are always welcome for an impromptu drink, appetizers & more. The second floor offers a more intimate setting and private rooms for those special occasions But the food is the star & takes center stage here. This is a French brasserie that gives homage to Chicago's steak house or a Chicago steak house with a French flare. Your point of view. Your taste and mood in each particular visit will determine which part of the menu you will choose from. We ordered 3 appetizers: Duck Rillete "Soupe A L'oinon" traditional Onion Soup Steak Tartare I started with the "Duck Rillete" appetizer and immediately decided it was going to be the highlight of the night. Until I tasted the "Onion Soup". Followed by the "Steak Tartare". As I couldn't decide my favorite, I realized this was going to be a memorable experience. For the main entree, my wife ordered the "Entrecotte Bone-In Grille", a delicious Rib-eye cut with a side of "Sautéed Wild Mushrooms" that were perfectly cooked to a butter stage while maintaining their texture. I should point out that the side dish was an overly generous portion, enough to share. And we did. I tried the "Maple Leaf Duck Duo", and I knew at first bite it was the right choice. Two pieces of delicately cooked duck confit served with Brussel sprouts, lentils, and Kohlrabi puree (similar to a turnip) that not only complemented the duck, but, deliciously enhances the flavor of the entire dish. Perhaps this is a good time to recognize those unseen heroes of the restaurant scene: from the head chef who curated an appealing menu to the entire staff who helped deliver every dish as the customer expects. Our entire meal was cleanly and beautifully presented & cooked to the exact temperature/doneness we requested. For dessert, we shared the "Basque Cheesecake" with passion fruit caramel sauce. As delicious as it sounds. I tried the Boucherie Old Fashioned. A well-balanced and surprisingly smooth drink with 2 spirits. For my taste, an excellent choice before dinner. I enjoyed the sweetest of "The Boucherie French Martini" with my dinner and is a well suited drink for dessert or as an after dinner cocktail. My wife had the "Chet Faker" and "The Mumford Collection". Two different cocktails but equally satisfying. The first had a hint of coffee flavor, while the other is more suited for those who like a little sparkling in their cocktails. A good dinner experience is not possible without a knowledgeable server with good timing and disposition, and Andres delivered on all counts. He patiently explained the menu, gave a detailed description of dishes when requested, and offered suggestions when we were undecided. He possessed the ability to have the dinner uninterrupted, reappearing at the precise moment we were ready for the next dish or drink. La Grande Boucherie is a classy, elegant, sophisticated, and approachable restaurant. I believe it has the components to satisfy the most discriminating diner! It exceeded all expectations.

Made reservations here for my mom's birthday dinner after seeing rave reviews from other yelpers. Service was top notch from the minute we walked in and were offered complimentary coat check. But our waitress was great too - we were seated upstairs on a busy Friday evening so both levels were lively. It was actually a bit loud for my tastes - would've been more enjoyable if they had turned the music down just a little but we managed. The ambiance was also a little festive with the holiday decorations up, which I thought they did a really nice job of - beautiful interior overall. For drinks we started with the French martini, Heure Magique, and Chet Faker. Out of those 3, the Chet Faker was hands down my favorite. I'd actually skip the Heure Magique - a little too medicinal tasting imo. We also got the beet salad as an appetizer, which was a surprising construction but still delicious. For my meal, I got the mussels but they were just ok. To finish, they brought out pistachio ice cream with a candle in it for my mom and we also ordered the yuzu matcha tart and profiteroles - all the desserts were very good. All in all, it was a nice meal in a lovely restaurant with great service.

Amazing restaurant! We were visiting from Boston and stopped in for drinks. The bartender Marco was phenomenal! He was friendly, funny and personable and made us the most amazing cocktails! Highly recommend !

Marco at the bar was amazing and attentive! Was quick to grab our order and help get us in on happy hour before it ended :)

Marco did a great job making me feel welcomed and provided top class hospitality. Definitely recommend.
